Destiny 2: Beyond Light Review

It has been more than three years since the release of the second part of the multiplayer first-person shooter game Destiny from Bungie studio, and the development team continues to enrich the game with content ranging from excellent to acceptable, and Bungie explained that it has long-term plans to continue to support the game until 2022. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves and focus now on their 2020 addition, which is called Beyond Light, is it the biggest expansion that team has worked on?

First let’s talk about the new generation version of the game and its appearance, after a long wait, console players can experience the game at 60 frames per second, with a remarkable improvement in the game’s graphics, which is a good shift compared to the last generation version, and how the gameplay and shooting became more enjoyable, more accurate and faster, in my opinion, Destiny still offers the most satisfying shooting style of the rest of the shooting games on the market, not only in terms of different weapon designs, but even the effects you see when you kill enemies to the same multiple and different enemy movements, all of these elements enrich the shooting sense of the game and make it unique even after all these years.

The Beyond Light expansion is a turning point for this series in which we notice the beginning of the fall of one of humanity’s richest treasures Traveler who supplies defenders with the energy of light to fight the darkness, but the source of this energy is getting weaker, and the dark forces are starting to stand out so much that some different forces of light became useless against some users of the dark forces, so the only solution for defenders in defense is to learn the dark forces and use them to get rid of new enemies.

The new enemy is one of the “Kells” of Eliksni creatures known as the Fallen and named Eramis, after earning the dark powers, Eramis began distributing it to its soldiers, and from here your journey starts, trying to stop her and learning the power of darkness that was called Stasis, and it makes you control and make ice, and this special power of darkness, has changed my way of thinking and strategies during my various battles.

This expansion takes us to one of Jupiter’s moons, called Europa, and this moon is completely covered with ice, and during your wanderings, you will experience snow hurricanes and snow mountains, and you will also see some magnificent and amazing views that prove that the game’s graphics and designs are still beautiful even after three years. Let’s now talk about the new powers, each of the three classes in Destiny had the power of Stasis, the game added skills to each class, and added an option to customize stasis powers more deeply than we would have seen in the other three original powers, making it a point to illustrate the difference between the three basic light powers from the beginning of the game to the new dark powers with this expansion.

Your allocation of these powers gives you the freedom to take your own leanings in the game, either offensive, defensive, or in other ways like creating platforms to make new ways to navigate the world or use these platforms to your advantage in one of the enemy encounters, this is just a small slice that shows you the deep change that happened in the fighting strategies individually, so imagine how it would be when you’re with a team of 3 in Strikes and how they also cooperate using these capabilities intelligently during Crucibles and Raid.

The basic missions in Beyond Light are fun and beautifully told and illustrated the story of The Fallen, and how defenders must learn from these mistakes and not adapt to the presence of the Traveler. In addition, there is the return of one of the strangest characters from the first part and other interesting moments for you if you’re related to this series, I’ll just avoid talking about it so I don’t spoil the events. The action in the missions was interesting and we saw new categories of enemies, and it also was entertaining because in most missions you are still exploring the use of your new powers and find the best and fastest solutions to get rid of the enemies. Other than that, Strikes were good, the new weapons are fun and especially Exotic weapons that offer skills that I see as the best since the beginning of this series. Don’t expect missions will offer the freedom of exploration that you saw with Forsaken, but they were weighed down and events arouse your curiosity to finish the story.

This new direction of Destiny, which helped to reduce its size is very welcomed because it diversifies its content to the point that the team will bring missions from the first part, this point will drive me and many players to return to the game to experience the previous content with general improvements, in addition to the presence of various activities related the game’ seasons which tell stories that connect the expansions together. All these different improvements make me look forward to more of what Bungie has to offer with destiny over the next couple of years.
